"Weary and thin they stagger in,
happy and stout they waddle out!"

History

With early beginnings as a pair of thatched cottages serving the local community, the Fox & Goose now stands as an imposing Victorian building having been rebuilt in 1895 as a modern coaching hotel.

It stands somewhat of a paradox to the surrounding area, where hundreds of years past remain visible, one of its closest neighbours being an 11th century motte and bailey, until you step inside you get whisked back to a bygone age. Visitors are often struck by the artefacts and trinkets from times past as they enter the Fox & Goose.

The walls are festooned with farming and hunting memorabilia, not for the squeamish, and an astonishing collection of local photographs, paintings and other collections, a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.

We are proud at the Fox & Goose that everything we make is all, where possible, made from scratch on the premises, from the sauces we use to the gravies, pastry and most importantly the puddings. The raw ingredients are the only items brought in and this is reflected in the returning trade which makes the Fox & Goose so popular.
